Introduction to weight and mass:
For the first activity, I would like you to follow the link below and watch the video on Lesson 1. Discuss why some objects weight more than others. Do bigger items always weigh more?
Once you have watched the video, ask your child to look around the house and see which items they think will be heavy. How do they know this? Which items will be light? Why? Are there any objects in the house that they think will weigh the same? Let's test it!
Using the link below, build your own balance scales and weigh different objects around the house. Encourage your child to compare the objects using the language 'more than', 'less than' and 'equal to'. Make sure they are interpreting the balance scales correctly and recognising why only one side tips.
After this, complete the below worksheet. I would love to see some photos of your balance scales! :)
