Measuring and Comparing Mass

Gather some cubes/blocks together and use them to measure the mass of different items around your house on your balance scale. Encourage your child to predict how many cubes/blocks they think the object will be equal to.
Then complete the below worksheet.
Next, watch the video from lesson three by following the link above. Discuss and compare the objects in the video, solving the problems together. Encourage your child to use the vocabulary: 'heavier than', 'lighter than', 'equal to', 'heaviest', 'lightest'.
Then complete the below worksheet. Please use your balance scales as often as your child needs to. Some children will need to be able to practical see that one object is heavier than the other in order to understand mass.
