Carol Vorderman has a fantastic website called 'The Maths Factor' which is offering free membership for parents and children learning from home. This website is normally used as a supplement to classroom learning, providing online tutorage to increase confidence in Maths. I would highly recommend signing up to 'The Maths Factor' and using it in addition to the Maths activities set by me.
Joe Wicks - PE
Joe Wicks is an online fitness instructor who is holding daily PE lessons for children learning from home. These are released on his YouTube channel at 9am each day. The videos will stay up for you to revisit at any point during the day, so get your child moving and follow Joe Wicks' fitness fun!
Oliver Jeffers - Reading
Oliver Jeffers is an amazing children's author who has written some of our much loved favourites such as 'Stuck', 'How to Catch a Star' and 'The Way Back Home'. Oliver is reading one of his books at 6pm each evening, live on his instagram page. The video is then available to watch for 24 hours after so enjoy a night off and let Oliver read the bedtime story.
Storyline Online is a children’s literacy website that streams videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books, alongside creatively produced illustrations. Readers include Viola Davis, Chris Pine, Lily Tomlin, Kevin Costner, Annette Bening, James Earl Jones, Betty White and dozens more. This website is entirely free so choose your favourite book and get listening!
Bear Grylls and Steve Blackshall
Bear Grylls and Steve Blackshall are encouraging children to try new activities and develop new skills while in isolation during the coronavirus pandemic. They have joined the Scouts to make more than 100 free activities, games and craft ideas available online, while young people are obliged to stay at home. They have called it 'The Great Indoors' and although there are Facebook Live tutorial videos available, the online resources on the scouts website are easy enough to follow and will keep the children occupied for hours!
Read and listen to an audiobook by David Walliams everyday at 11am for 20 minutes from his collection of stories “World’s Worst Children”, link on his website. These are funny, light-hearted and a firm favourite of many children out there. Some of them may be a little mature for our Year 1 children, so just check out the synopsis first.
Professional dance lessons for you to do at home with your children with Oti Mabuse. You don’t have to watch these at 11:30am as she is saving them all to her YouTube channel. She is also offering FREE dance lessons for adults in the evening, head over to her channel for more information.
Live cooking during lunch with Jamie Oliver. Moreover, you can catch up on his livestreams at a later date as he is on a mission to help teach children how to cook healthy meals. In other words, home learning with the celebs doesn’t get much better than this.
Professional dance lessons with Darcey Bussell. You will join a member of the DDMIX Professional Dance Team on their Facebook page. Importantly they aim to keep children active during this time of social distancing and self-isolation.
